FAQs
Navigating club soccer is a confusing world! Our goal is to be as transparent as possible so that there are no surprises, and you are able to predetermine if your child and your family are a good fit for Liberty United.
The Most Common Questions...
"Why does Liberty United cost more than Rec soccer?"
Your registration fees go towards practice field rental, team equipment, coaching and administrative fees, volunteer discounts, and grants from the Liberty United Scholarship Fund supporting players in need.
We believe that coaching is the single biggest difference that you get moving up to us from rec soccer. Our coaches know the game well, and have either played or coached at a high level. For this reason, we pay our coaches for the time and energy they invest into our athletes.
"Where are practices and games held?"
If space allows, our goal is to have all practices in Liberty, MO. Game locations depend on your team's level of sport. Most teams will play in the Northland, but our club competitive teams play in the south Kansas City metro. Our aim is to keep games local for as long as there is adequate competition to allow our individuals and teams the best opportunity to develop.
"What is the time commitment?"
The time commitment depends on the age of your team. K-1st grade teams typically practice one time per week. 2nd grade and older practice two times per week. Games consist of 6-10 games (depending on their league) and are played on the weekends.
We know that interests can change quickly and unlike competitive teams, we do not require year-round obligations. Instead, we believe in allowing players to commit one season at a time.
Fall season runs from August to October. Spring season runs from March to May. Typically, registration opens 6 weeks before the season starts, or earlier.
"How can I get involved?"
Liberty United depends on parent volunteers to serve families best. Think about a job, and we've probably got a spot for you. Main positions include:
-
Head Coach (experience required)
-
Assistant Coach (experience preferred, but not required)
-
Team Manager (organizational and communication skills required)
-
Set up and tear down volunteer (practices only)
More Common Questions...
"Is it true that Club teams only play a player in one position all season?"
No Way!
We believe that athletes U12 and below develop the best when they learn how to play ALL positions on the field. Over time, it is OK to have a position preference, but so many skills are learned by learning every position. There just isn't a substitute for working and understanding the whole field.
"Do players have to tryout every summer?"
Yes!
Tryouts are the method that we use to build our teams at the U9-U12 range. A player's optimal development depends on playing with the right teammates where practice occurs in the Goldilocks Zone of not too easy and not too difficult, but just right. Because athletes develop at different rates, an annual tryout in Summer is a must, and sets the team up for the Fall/Spring season.
"We completed tryouts. What happens next?"
Whew! Nice work!
We know that playing the game under watchful eyes can be tough. But you showed up and put in the work. Thank you!
The next step is for coaches and staff to get together the day after tryouts to talk about player performance. All athletes are looked at and teams are designed to have the best opportunities for the upcoming season. Upon receiving an invitation to play via email, parents will have 48 hours to respond with a yes or no to join a team. And remember, if it doesn't work out this time, there will always be next year.
Work hard and have fun!
